LeBron James has shocked the world once again after this mind-blowing piece of news caught steam on the internet. James is all set to out-earn the NBA salary cap for the 2004-2005 season. In fact, King James’ whopping $44.4 million annual salary is more than the $43.8 million salary cap of the entire NBA in his sophomore year in the league.

The NBA has progressed a lot in the last two decades. Stephen Curry has changed the direction of the game with his accurate shooting from beyond the arc. And LeBron’s massive contract compared to the 2004-05 salary cap shows how a booming economy has impacted the NBA.

LeBron James’ salary overtaking the 2004-05 salary cap is certainly shocking news. As a matter of fact, the four-time NBA champion signed a staggering $85 million two-year extension after winning the championship in 2020.

James will receive his $44.47 million annual salary by virtue of the deal. His contract with the Lakers expires after the 2022-23 season.

Nowadays, NBA fans have grown accustomed to players getting an exorbitant amount of money. In fact, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets just signed a historic $264 million 5-year contract extension. The two-time NBA MVP shocked the NBA community by bagging the biggest contract extension in league history.

Meanwhile, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has expressed his discontent on multiple occasions with Rudy Gobert’s max contract extension. The four-time NBA champion has argued that players like Gobert getting a max extension without performing in the postseason sets a bad precedent for the league.

Incidentally, Shaq joined the Lakers in 1996 on a massive seven-year $120 million contract. Many contemporary players, like Dennis Rodman and Charles Barkley, had a point of contention with the unprecedented deal. However, Shaq proved he’s worth every penny of his contract by delivering three consecutive championships for the Lakers.
