Every year, the nation’s best high school basketball players from around the country take part in the McDonald’s All-American Games. This year was no different – after two decades of his father making headlines, LeBron James’ son Bronny could be seen showcasing his skills at the McDonald’s All-American Dunk contest. However, it seems Bronny could not live up to the hype, with fans walking away not as impressed as they’d hoped.

About 20 years ago in 2003, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James took part in the McDonald’s All-American dunk contest to win it all. His insane vertical and finishing above the rim had caught everyone off-guard. This year, he witnessed his son, seated with his daughter Zhuri and wife Savannah, perform a few dunks at the contest.

It may have been natural for viewers and fans to expect Bronny James to surpass his father, and be quick to call him bust if he isn’t able to. However, Bronny’s performance was nothing short of impressive.

James’ daughter and Bronny’s younger sister Zhuri had a scoreboard of 9 instead of 10 to rate her brother’s dunk. To this, James’ tweeted, “It’s cool. Should have been 10s across the board! For sure. Hahaha.”

James’ tweet probably referred to Zhuri holding a 9 scoreboard but may have been also addressing the fact that the judges also chose to give him a 9 instead of all 10s. However, Zhuri and Savannah were in agreement for Bronny’s next dunk when he flew over his younger 6’5″ brother Bryce to slam it down.

Fans have mixed reactions after Bronny’s performance

Bronny’s performance in the McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest had some fans impressed while others continued to taunt and troll him on social media for his mediocre-ish performance.

About his first windmill dunk, one fan tweeted, “Most mid dunk I’ve ever seen can’t wait for him to be a career g-leaguer after daddy retires.”

As for his second dunk over his brother, another fan commented, “Great kid, great ball player but if your gunna do it…you gutta do it. No push off the shoulder and standing person with head up.”

Evidently, fans were quite evenly split, with some being impressed and others not that much. Bronny finished second on the contest that LeBron James had won 20 years ago.
