There was a time the Houston Rockets had championships aspirations. Notably, it was all because of one superstar, James Harden. The Beard was an offensive juggernaut scoring unconsciously during his tenure with H-Town. The Rockets arguably got the prime of Harden. Likewise, when John Wall got traded, he expected to work together with the 10-time All-Star. Unfortunately, he came in when things were at rock bottom. During a recent interview, the now-Los Angeles Clippers guard explained Harden’s bizarre antics when he got to Houston.

The 2018 Most Valuable Player laid it all out for Houston. They even set fear in the Golden State Warriors with Kevin Durant. However, it seemed luck was never on their side with injuries sidelining his biggest help. After years of taking playoff exits, Harden was desperate to win a championship. What followed was an ugly sequence where James Harden went from the city’s favorite to an enemy. Accusations of being unprofessional flooded his way when news of him partying with Lil Baby came on. Seeing it all closely, John Wall told the Run Your Race podcast about his first meeting with a disconnected Harden.

John Wall expected to compete alongside James Harden

In his recent podcast appearance, the former number-one overall pick shed light on his life as an NBA athlete. One of the most intriguing topics was his trade from the Washington Wizards. Wall had become the face of the franchise before being let go in exchange for Russell Westbrook. However, when he heard he was going to the Rockets, he instantly thought about helping the Beard compete for a title. But Harden apparently didn’t want any part of the process. At a time when he was supposed to train, the three-time scoring champion was out partying.

John Wall told Run Your Race, “When I landed, I’m like, ‘What’s up? I’m about to land. Gotta go do my conference s–t.’ He’s like, ‘Well I’m on my way to Atlanta to go to Lil Baby’s birthday.'” He continued, “He talking about, ‘You wanna get on the jet with me?’ B***h, I just got traded here. I can’t f**k up. I’ve got to be on good terms. I don’t know how the owner is, how the GM is. I don’t know nothing.”

That would be the last season James Harden would don a Rockets jersey. Apart from going to parties, he also turned up to practices late. In addition, Harden was also out of shape according to Bleacher Report. Just nine games into the 2021 season, the Beard was shipped to Brooklyn in a blockbuster trade.
