The NBA offseason has been a wild ride so far. While the San Antonio Spurs drafted a French demigod, others got busy in the trade market. Some of the best players in the league have already been moved. Bradley Beal, Kristaps Porzingis, former DPOY Marcus Smart, the list keeps on growing. However, one of the most shocking trades came from the Golden State Warriors. After giving him a $120 million contract the previous year, the Warriors shipped Jordan Poole to Washington for one of Stephen Curry‘s biggest rivals. While the fit makes sense from a basketball perspective, there is a chemistry issue that might become a problem again.

Chris Paul has been through every wrinkle the NBA has to offer. Whether it be franchise point guard for a downtrodden team, or pairing up with another dynamic ball-handler, he’s been through it all. However, this union with the Warriors might be his biggest challenge yet.

The reason? He hasn’t teamed up with a genuine rival, who was his “enemy”, yet. Curry and Paul were bitter rivals for years. Before Curry’s meteoric ascension, Paul was the standard to catch. And Curry remembers. Just last season, he shouted, “This ain’t 2014 no more,” after scoring on Paul. One of the smartest basketball players ever, Paul understands the challenge, though.

When asked about his fit with the team, Paul was honest. “I don’t know yet…But I’ve been fortunate enough to play 18 years and I’ve figured it out that long.” Further, CP3 explained his mindset as he walks into a hostile environment. “I’m excited…I know I’ve been sort of the sworn enemy for a long time.”?

However, Paul seems excited about the prospect of joining a winning team and system. Perhaps, it can finally get him to the promised land. He even spoke about the Warriors’ pending decisions for free agency, most notably concerning Draymond Green. The problem with the Draymond Green situation, however, might turn out to be Chris Paul himself.

Contracts might force Stephen Curry to part ways with Draymond Green

The Warriors have long been among the most expensive teams in the league. While they have 4 championships to show for it, the cost of keeping the core together keeps increasing. With Steph and Klay set to earn upwards of $95 million dollars, the team is low on bread.
