The WNBA has a new world champion. And it is none other that the Las Vegas Aces who won their first title in franchise history and brought a first major championship to the city of Las Vegas. And they were led by Becky Hammon, a former WNBA star and an NBA assistant coach, who broke her own legendary records with Chelsea Gray’s Aces.

Hammon was appointed the head coach of the Aces at the start of this season. She played in the WNBA for 15 years and was a six-time All-Star. She also was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs, only the second woman to don that role. And in 2020, she became the first female acting coach when Gregg Popovich got ejected in a game.

Hammon continued to break her own records since she came into the WNBA. In her very first year, Hammon won the title with the Aces. And she created WNBA history by becoming the first coach to win in her first year in charge. And she is also the first former player to win the title as a coach.
On top of that, when Hammon was appointed the head coach, she became the highest-paid coach in WNBA history. And she showed her worth as the Aces won the Commissioners cup and sealed the number one seed in the regular season. Along with that, Hammon won the Coach of the Year award as well.

Hammon had been a player for 15 years but she was never able to lift the title. But in her first season as a head coach, Hammon completed her decades-long quest for a ring. Her decision to leave the Spurs to become the WNBA Head coach paid off in the end.

The Aces were leading the series 2-1, and they had a chance to seal the deal. And their star Chelsea Gray dropped 20 points as she led the Aces to a 78-71 over the Connecticut Sun in Game 4. And Gray was named the WNBA Finals MVP. The city of Las Vegas will undoubtedly rejoice as Hammon and Gray lead the Aces to their first championship in the city’s history.
