Los Angeles Lakers icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has long been a pioneer for social causes. In fact, the NBA legend runs a blog where he writes about important news topics and issues of interest. Abdul-Jabbar enjoys calling a spade a spade whenever he writes or speaks at a public forum. He has successfully used his platform to highlight various social and political issues over the years.

In his recent blog, Abdul-Jabbar raised concerns over a “destructive” shocker from American politics. The 75-year-old has never held back from giving strong opinions. The 6x NBA Champion wrote about the 36-year-old Republican who proudly stated the fact that she is going to be a grandmother. Abdul-Jabbar also spoke about the Republican’s children.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sympathizes with the kids
Republican congresswoman, Lauren Boebert, proudly announced that she is going to be a grandmother in April. While speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Boebert said that her 17-year-old son and his 15-year-old girlfriend are expecting a child together. The congresswoman said, “…not only am I a mom of four boys, but come April, I will be a [grandmother] to a brand-new grandson.”
Underage kids having babies was of serious concern for the NBA legend. Abdul-Jabbar presented statistics to back his opinion against underage children having babies. He wrote that 32% of those who marry under 18 get divorced within 5 years and 48% within 10 years. He also said that the underage couple might be able to make it through in their life, but the statistics are completely against it.

The 2x finals MVP also pointed out that even if the marriage lasts 10 years, that won’t do any good to anyone as the kids will still be immature to understand marriage and take care of themselves. The NBA legend didn’t stop there, he went on to highlight the other problematic takes Boebert has presented in public.

Abdul-Jabbar says that parents are failing their young kids
Continuing on Boebert, the 19x NBA All-Star said that she promotes carrying guns but frowns upon sex education being made part of education in schools. He added that this misdirected parenting will cause serious damage to their children’s life when they grow up. Abdul-Jabbar believes that children should be first allowed to grow and mature so that they can make their own decisions. He also said that had her son been taught about condom use at either school or home, this unfortunate situation wouldn’t have come up.
However, he ended with a disclaimer, “This is not to shame the children…” Considering the recent controversy over Ja Morant, perhaps it is good for the NBA too that 75-year-old icons are still active about pressing issues.
