It’s been over two decades since the NBA world last witnessed Michael Jordan in his prime, when he made the shot and sealed the game for the ‘Last Dance’ Chicago Bulls in 1998. However, many fans still consider the 6x NBA champion the greatest of all time. Moreover, ‘His Airness’ gets a nod even from many active and retired NBA players despite not being known as the nicest person to be around.

NBA champion Stephen Jackson, who played in the NBA for 14 years, also picked MJ as his GOAT recently. However, Jackson came to that conclusion after watching an almost 50-year-old Jordan dominate the hardwood during his stint with the Charlotte Hornets. But only after becoming a victim of the Hall of Famer’s wrath.

Besides going down in history as one of the greatest to ever do it, Jordan also went down as the fiercest competitor the game has seen. However, after hanging up his shoes as a player, Jordan retained his uber-competitive nature even as a senior executive of an NBA team. Unfortunately, when Stephen Jackson arrived in Charlotte in 2009, he witnessed this ferocity firsthand.

The All the Smoke podcast host arrived in Charlotte to play for the then-Bobcats in 2009. Incidentally, the Bobcats miraculously made the playoffs that year. However, they didn’t have the best of starts to the season. Consequently, Jordan, who was then a minority owner and had the final say in all things basketball, took matters into his own hands.

In an attempt to set his players straight, the Hall of Famer laced up for some on-court action. While practicing, Jordan went off on Jackson and the players for speaking up to him in the locker room the previous day. The 6x NBA champion went on to humble them with his scathing words, “Back on that s**t, think yall did something. Talking about all his accolades… take my shoes off!”. To top it off, ‘His Airness’ got on the second team for a scrimmage against the first team. Surprisingly, a 47-year-old Jordan came out on top.

Staying true to his nature, he dunked on his way out to further worsen the blow and prove his point. After the bizarre episode of getting destroyed by a nearly 50-year-old Jordan, Jackson came to grips with reality and made his pick on the GOAT debate. After narrating this story on his recent podcast appearance with Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Jackson revealed how, after the practice, he confessed to his pops and declared,?“That’s why he the GOAT”.?

The worst owner of all time

Though the 6x NBA Finals MVP tops countless GOAT debates, he seldom garners a similar recognition as an owner. In fact, many consider Jordan to be one of the worst NBA owners ever. Following the 2009-10 NBA season, when the Bobcats made the playoffs in a long time, Billionaire Jordan became the majority owner of the Bobcats, who are now the Charlotte Hornets, after his $275 million purchase from the Johnson family.

However, his stint as an owner has yet to replicate his Hall of Fame career. In the last decade, the Hornets have made the playoffs only twice (2013-14, 2015-16). Moreover, they also held the lottery pick multiple times. MJ has also not drafted the best of talents with his fair share of draft ‘busts’ as an owner.
