Hip-hop music and rappers have a separate fanbase in the NBA world. Most NBA superstars are huge hip-hop admirers and some players like Shaquille O’Neal and Damian Lillard have even tried their hands at rap music. As a majority of the NBA royalty have close ties with some of the most popular rappers of the generation, they also love to talk at great lengths about hip-hop. As Lil Wayne and 50 Cent’s verzuz battle becomes the talk of the town, Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George has recently chimed in with his two cents on the much debated rap battle.

Off the court, Clippers forward Paul George has often expressed his love and admiration for several rappers. Recently, PG-13 has given a hot take on the rap battle between Lil Wayne and 50 Cent, that might trigger a heated debate in the rap scene.

The hip-hop world has been debating whether Lil Wayne or 50 Cent is the better rapper for quite some time. Fuelling the debate, American DJ, Rashaun Casey a.k.a DJ Envy has recently said that 50 Cent would defeat Lil Wayne in a ‘verzuz’ battle. Now that the debate has become the talk of the town, Paul George and his crew devoted some time to weigh in on the same, among other things, in the latest episode of George’s podcast.

PG-13, however, seems to disagree with DJ Envy’s controversial take. The 8x- NBA All-Star started his take by saying that the 5x- Grammy Winner Lil Wayne’s discography is unparalleled. While accepting 50’s greatness as a lyricist, George didn’t think twice before declaring his favorite.

50 Cents was one of my favorite rappers, don’t get me wrong. He is still one of my favourites like OG rappers that I like since high school. But ain’t nobody bro, ain’t nobody touching Lil Wayne’s categories. Lil Wayne got us through our AAU Circuit,” the Clippers forward said.

PG didn’t take long to pick his winner. However, it would be interesting to see how the Hip-Hop world would react to his take.

The NBA’s hip-hop connection

Several rappers have over the years given shout outs to NBA stars in their songs. The late East Coast rap icon The Notorious B.I.G is one such rapper who had acknowledged the NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal in one of his songs. On the back of Biggie’s gesture, Shaq befriended the late rapper and the two would later collaborate for a song. DJ Diesel has also befriended some iconic rappers like Jay-Z and Nas.
