In November 2022, the Bahamas-based cryptocurrency exchange, FTX collapsed as then-CEO Sam Bankman-Fried announced that the organization didn’t have enough funds to meet the customers’ demands. Shortly after FTX collapsed, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Bankman-Fried and other stars who were involved with the company, like Stephen Curry, Shaquille O’Neal, and Tom Brady. After endorsing FTX multiple times, Shaq has now disassociated himself from the organization and has been accused of evading the law. This comes after the company recently announced that $8.9 billion in customer funds was still missing.
Shaq signed as an ambassador for FTX last year and was readily involved in the promotion of the cryptocurrency exchange company. The NBA legend is being sued for allegedly inducing customers to invest their funds in the now-bankrupt company. However, attorneys have recently alleged that Shaq is potentially ‘hiding in his home’ to evade the charges against him.

According to FTX retail investor Edwin Garrison’s lawyers, all the aforementioned stars were readily available for legal purposes. However, the story turned out to be a bit different for Shaq. According to the email sent to the defendants by the lawyers, as per Forbes, the four-time champion has evaded them for ‘nearly four weeks’.
The email read, “The sole remaining Defendant to accept service of the complaint is Defendant Mr. Shaquille O’Neal, who we know has discussed the existence of this case, but is apparently still actively evading service, refusing to answer his home door when approached by our process servers.”
Before becoming a brand ambassador, Shaq promoted FTX in May 2022 by tweeting, “I’m in @FTX_Official. Got my NFT. See you there.” Apart from that, he also promoted the company by announcing that the 2022 Shaq’s Fun House was going to be sponsored by FTX.

The 15x NBA All-Star, who is also an avid investor, has associated himself with a lot of brands over the years. However, it seems like the four-time champion made a wrong decision by endorsing this cryptocurrency exchange.
Shaq revealed his thoughts after FTX collapsed
Shaq had promoted FTX on multiple occasions. However, once they filed for bankruptcy, the four-time champion dissociated himself from the organization. In fact, the three-time Finals MVP seemingly downplayed his role as an ambassador in a CNBC interview. Shaq said, “A lot of people think I’m involved, but I was just a paid spokesperson for a commercial.”
