The NBA preseason is officially underway. The first matchup was between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn ran through the purple and gold in their first game. However, the Lakers did miss their prime stars. Nevertheless, Anthony Davis still can’t believe how they got one player.
Davis was the only star on the LA team for the night. But, even he did not play much as he took the floor for just 11 minutes. The coaching staff gave other young players their chance to see what would work best for them. One of these players was Malik Monk.
While the Lakers received criticism for signing players that were beyond their prime, this choice of theirs is the complete opposite. 23 YO Monk impressed everyone in his debut performance. Post game AD spoke about how he can’t wrap his head around the acquisition of Monk.

Anthony Davis still shocked to see Monk on the Lakers
While AD did not see much game time in the preseason matchup, he got to witness an impressive debut from Monk. Moreover, even LeBron James and Russell Westbrook were present in the crowd. In the post-game interview, AD had nothing but praise for the 23-year-old and is excited to share the floor with him.
He said: “We’re still surprised we got him, to be honest. He’s such a hell of a player. We saw what he did out there the minute that he played. He can score the ball all three levels. Play hard, make the right reads. So he’s going to be fun to have this year.”

This is huge praise coming from one of the best big men in the league. The young shooting guard made his mark right away as he scored 15 points in just 21 minutes in his debut. He shot 50% from beyond the arc and overall from the field as well. Looking at his performance, he could be in contention to take the starting role.

The Brooklyn Nets dominate the Lakers with a big win
Similar to the Lakers, the Nets did not play their ‘Big 3’ in their pre-season matchup. However, they too have plenty of firepower in store. Notably, rookie and Summer League MVP, Cam Thomas put on an impressive performance as he led the Nets in scoring in their 123-97 win.
