We have now reached almost halfway of this current regular season of the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers had made a lot of promises during the offseason and at the time, the addition of veteran players like Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook seemed like a really good idea.
However, at the middle of the season, the Lakers find themselves barely qualifying for the play-in tournament. The Lakers are currently in 9th place in the Western Conference and are currently behind the Clippers and Timberwolves. Their climb up to qualify for the playoffs will not be easy but surely is not impossible.
LeBron James is the only player who has had consistent and impactful performances for the Lakers this season. However, even he has missed almost 15 games to injuries. An anonymous member of the Lakers staff told Ramona Shelbourne, “Everyday LeBron is out, we sink”.

The stat sheet reveals that the Lakers are 19-17 when LeBron plays and 5-10 when he does not. Their winning percentage reduces from .528 to .333. Their points per game have also reduced drastically. LeBron’s absence has drastically affected the Lakers.

LeBron James’ effect on the Lakers
This statement is definitely true. The whole team has been centered around LeBron James. LeBron James is definitely the leader of the Laker franchise and most of the offseason moves and trades were made under his guidance and counsel.
Moreover, other star players like Westbrook and Davis have not been able to perform. LeBron is getting old and we can see that happening through his constant injuries. He is supposed to pass on the torch of the leader to Davis. However, Davis has been really inconsistent in his performances this season. Moreover, it is extremely important to note that Davis is comparatively fragile and gets injured quite often.
It is important to mention that Davis is healthy right now and is putting up good performances for the Lakers. Nonetheless, the team is still losing, as without LeBron their offensive and defensive capabilities diminish.

Westbrook was supposed to turn around the luck of the franchise for the better. His speed and athleticism were to make up for the veteran roster that LeBron has created. Unsurprisingly, this blew up in the Lakers’ face. Westbrook has had a few good scoring performances this season. However, he is totally inconsistent with the ball. Westbrook is currently averaging 4.1 turnovers per game.
LeBron is averaging 29.1 points per game at the age of 37. This is one of the highest-scoring displays he has ever put forth. Some say LeBron’s peak is still going on.
