The Philadelphia 76ers fell out of the playoffs after a defeat against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The look of the roster with James Harden and Joel Embiid being the leading duo certainly looked like a recipe for success. However, this was not the case.
Both the 76ers and Harden had wanted this trade to happen for two years now. The trade deal between Ben Simmons and James Harden was a possibility in the offseason last year as well. This was what triggered the Ben Simmons fiasco which resulted in him not playing a single game all season. The trade did finally happen as the Nets acquired Ben Simmons and the 76ers brought in James Harden.

The question since February was which team won the trade, the Nets or the 76ers? As it turns out it seems to be a lose-lose for both sides as neither have flourished. While Ben Simmons hasn?t played a single minute all season, James Harden has been disappointing for the 76ers as well. The stature, reputation and talent that precedes Harden is what made everyone?s expectations big. He has not played up to the mark, that?s for sure.

When the trade happened, there were some optimistic and enthusiastic fans who wanted the partnership of Joel Embiid and James Harden to be a big success. So much so that they predicted the partners to be the next Shaq and Kobe. However, there was a reason why it was such an unpopular opinion. The season ahead proved that this season at least they were nowhere close to the mayhem Kobe and Shaq created.

Shaq posted on his Instagram, has once again discredited the people claiming Embiid and Harden of being the next Shaq and Kobe. Earlier as well he was quick to diminish any such claims. Once again he did that via Instagram.

He had said that he and Kobe bossed the league for almost 7-8 seasons. They also won the three-peat with the Lakers in the 2000-2002 period. He claimed that their partnership was once in a generation stuff and Embiid and Harden were not close. At least not for now. How the duo performs next season would decide if they are good enough to be compared to the legendary Shaq and Kobe. Because those two were without a doubt one of best partnerships in the history of the game.
