NBA legends like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant have dropped some of the most memorable performances in NBA history while wearing the iconic black mask. Although some players turn up clutch while wearing a mask, it is seen as a burden by many across the sporting world. As for Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, it may very well be a burden. The 2022 NBA Finalist has been wearing a mask since February after he suffered a facial fracture against the Philadelphia 76ers.

While Brown’s performances might have improved after he started wearing the black mask, he took matters into his own hands during the playoffs. Interestingly, the gesture by Brown left his teammates shocked during a break in play.

Brown’s shooting looked shabby during the game but it all changed after he ripped off his mask. The two-time NBA All-Star ripped off his mask while the team was in a huddle. Interestingly, Jayson Tatum witnessed Brown taking off his mask and was very excited. He knew Brown was going to hit the gas!

“I was talking to (Marcus) Smart when JB took his mask off. I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, it’s go time, I knew he was gonna turn it up a notch”, said Tatum according to The Athletic.

Brown broke his shackles and ended the game with 31 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds. Tatum and Brown combined for a total of 62 points and led the Celtics to a crucial 129-121 win over the Hawks. With this win, the Boston side took a 3-1 lead in the series.

Brown’s days with the Celtics might be numbered

There is no denying that Jayson Tatum is the biggest star in the Celtics currently. For that reason, Jaylen Brown’s contribution to the team often goes unnoticed. In fact, he is regarded as one of the most underrated players by NBA fans.

The Houston Rockets might very well be Brown’s next destination. They recently hired former Celtics boss Ime Udoka for the coaching job and there have been rumors regarding Sixers’ James Harden as well.
