Amidst a struggling season, the Los Angeles Lakers have been on an impressive win streak ever since LeBron James issued a fiery speech after losing to his former team. However, with the NBA trade deadline just around the corner (Feb 09), the Lakers will have to make their mark in the volatile trade market to consolidate their roster before the playoffs (if they make it). Amidst a rampant trade market with the NBA trade deadline just a month away, the Los Angeles Lakers recently made a move to onboard an Ex-NBA player. According to recent reports, they worked out Cody Zeller a week ago to fill their 15th roster spot. Since getting drafted in 2013, Zeller has been a journeyman, with his last stop in Portland. Due to injuries, the big man has had an underwhelming career with an average of 8.5 points, six rebounds, and one assist.

Apart from working out Zeller, the Lakers also announced to work out another center in 4x All-Star DeMarcus Cousins. Like Zeller, Cousins also suffered injuries cutting short what could have been an impressive career. Pelinka and Co. also recently signed guard Sterling Brown to a ten-day contract. The 6’5” guard had an impressive run in Houston. However, he never managed to land an extended contract.

The Lakers will need the extra bodies with Anthony Davis nursing an injury and expected to miss time. Moreover, they are also missing out on the services of Lonnie Walker IV and Austin Reeves, who have been instrumental as role players in the season thus far.

The Lakers’ winning streak

Despite the crucial injuries, 4x NBA champion King James has led the Lakers to an impressive five-game win streak. The Lakers have improved their record to 19-21 and currently sit just out of play-in tournament contention as the 12th seed in the Western Conference.

Moreover, in the last ten games, the King has been averaging MVP-like numbers with 34.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.4 assists at age 38.
