The Dallas Mavericks recently concluded one of their worst seasons. The team failed to even make it to the play-in tournament after starting the season with high hopes following last year’s Conference Finals. The criticism that came with it was taxing. However, their woes seem to be just starting, as they recently were found guilty after the NBA’s investigation.
The Mavs brought in NBA champion Kyrie Irving, expecting a better result than last season, but nothing clicked between the star and his team. The Mavs owner Mark Cuban is still willing to provide a championship-worthy team to his star player Luka Doncic. As per rumors, he is willing to sign a five-year deal with Irving worth a whopping $272 million. Amidst the unfortunate circumstances that surround the Dallas team, they are now being fined a hefty sum after an NBA investigation.

The Dallas Mavericks played an elimination game against the Chicago Bulls on April 7th. A lot of the key players of the team were missing on the court. Although they had no scope of improving their position in the league with that game, sitting out players for no reason paints the league in a bad light.
Because of this tactic, the NBA launched an investigation against the team. It was found that the Mavs wanted to lose the game intentionally. This was done to improve their chances of keeping the first-round pick in the 2023 draft. The Mavs were found guilty of violating the player resting policy that is followed in the league.
Joe Dumars, the league’s Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, criticized the team in an official statement. He said, “The Dallas Mavericks’ decision to restrict key players from fully participating in an elimination game last Friday against Chicago undermined the integrity of our sport.” Dumars added, “The Mavericks’ actions failed our fans and our league.” The Mavs are being fined $750k for their misconduct and violating the rules of the league.

Some fans said that the fine is not proportional to the damage done by the team
$750,000 is less than the mavs paid players not to win the game.
If it truly undermined the integrity of the sport, then make the fine show it
