While the 2022-23 season is roughly two weeks away, NBA teams have been busy with media day and preseason games. However, the Phoenix Suns have remained a constant hot topic ever since the controversy with Robert Sarver.

The owner of the Phoenix Suns and the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury was suspended for one year and fined $10 million for inappropriate workplace behavior. Following his suspension, Sarver announced his decision to sell the NBA and WNBA teams. Ever since the news was out, the names of several big personalities have come up as potential buyers. The reports of Jeff Bezos being the possible owner of the NBA team has brought extensive attention to the matter.

Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal recently gave his thoughts on the whole affair. The Big Aristotle reportedly told TMZ Sports that he had initially thought of buying Sarver’s share of the NBA team. However, when he heard the news of Bezos’ possible involvement as the new owner of the team, Shaq dropped the idea.

He was heard saying that he had no interest in going up against Bezos, whose net worth is around $136 billion. Shaq said that he didn’t want to go up against the billionaire, but he would be interested in being one of the board members if Bezos buy the Suns.

While Bezos is yet to confirm the news, this is not the only matter that has garnered attention to the Suns. Apparently, there is an ongoing tension between the Suns’ coach Monty Williams and player Deandre Ayton.

The Phoenix Suns faced a disappointing defeat from the Dallas Mavericks in Game 7 last season. The semifinal game that took place on 16 May 2022 saw the Suns scoring 90 points against the Mavericks’ 123 points. The Sun’s center Deandre Ayton was on the court for only 17 minutes before the team’s coach Monty Williams benched him. When asked about his decision, Williams said that it was for ‘internal reasons’.

Apparently, the reason was that the two were in some kind of confrontation before the game. The Suns have been a mess for quite some time now and it might be the best time to solve their issues before the season starts. Former Los Angeles Lakers player and sports analyst, Shaquille O’Neal seem to have a similar opinion as he addressed the situation in his latest podcast episode.

In The Big Bigen Conspiracy episode, Nischelle Turner bought up the Ayton-Williams issue. She informed that Ayton had reportedly said that he hasn’t spoken to Williams since Game 7. In response, Shaq said that the ‘Bahamian Beast’ should focus on being his best version and become a leader and not worry about anything else.

“You have a job to do, you gotta play. This is the time to just bring everybody especially to sit together,” said Shaq, referring to Ayton.
