In the modern NBA many top players ask for a trade if they don’t see the team progressing or if they don’t have the required top players to win a championship. Hence, Damian Lillard‘s request for trade doesn’t come as a surprise. He remained loyal to the Portland Trailblazers since getting drafted in 2012. On the other hand, Stephen Curry has been with the Golden State Warriors since 2009, and he has remained with the franchise because the Warriors front office supported Curry with a competitive squad.
For more than a decade, super teams have dominated the NBA. During this time, only a few players remained with the teams who drafted them. Damian Lillard, one of those players, requested a trade on July 1.

Players have more or less a say in bringing a competitive squad. It has been evident from the Michael Jordan era when he influenced the Chicago Bulls GM Jerry Kraus for bringing Dennis Rodman from the San Antonio Spurs. Rodman was the perfect defensive player and the missing puzzle for winning the second 3-peat in the Bull’s history. The former Warriors GM Bob Myers helped in making the Golden State Warriors dynasty what it is today. However, Myers left the team on June 30 leaving the future of the franchise at the hands of Mike Dunleavy Jr.
In an effort to free up cap space, his first decision as president was to trade away their most valuable trade asset, Jordan Poole, who had recently signed a four-year, $140 million extension, in exchange for 38-year-old veteran Chris Paul, who is on an expiring contract, demonstrating their intent to trade away youth for win-now products. Many big players like Michael Jordan and LeBron James who himself has been dubbed ‘LeGM’ for orchestrating trades for the improvement of his team.

Medina added, ?It’s more of the traditional lens of them talking to him and keeping him in the loop, and he’ll give the player feedback, but he stays pretty uninvolved.? When Draymond Green’s future in the Bay Area was uncertain, the Warriors expected to keep Curry involved in their maneuvers, seeking his ideas where they deem essential, and eventually Green signed a $100M, four-year contract extension with the Warriors.
If the team is competitive, Curry doesn’t care about anything else
Curry doesn’t seem to mind what decisions the front office makes as long as he has a team capable of winning a championship together, instead opting to trust that they will make the right decisions for the organization, eventually repaying their trust in him over the years, which has led to the formation of one of the NBA’s greatest dynasties.
