“Almost Didn’t Get Out of There Alive”: Charles Barkley Recounts a ‘Deadly’ Experience With Late Emmy Award-Winner

Recently, Barkley recounted a frightening experience when he landed himself in trouble after making a poorly timed joke that didn’t play out as expected.

‘Steam Room’ is one such platform where he freely expresses his opinions. On a recent episode of the show, Charles Barkley was joined by the co-host of the show, Ernie Johnson. The guest of the week was Tim Kiley, who joined the show during the answering machine segment.

As the segment started, Ernie Johnson and Chuck received a call from Boston. The caller asked if Chuck could share some of his best Craig Sager stories. Shaq replied that he still talks to Sager’s wife, Stacy, and their kids. Then he stated that his favorite story about the late Emmy award winner would be the one where he cracked an untimely joke around Crag Sager’s parents.

He said,

“My favorite Sager story is… I went he took me to meet his mom and dad. And I made the mistake of cracking jokes about his outfit. I thought his mom was gonna kill me. I said Miss Sager, I was just joking around, I was just joking. You know how when you talk about somebody’s kids, they go crazy. Oh my God. I thought his mom was going to kill me. I almost didn’t get out of there alive.”

Craig Sager had been battling leukemia since 2014. When he got his third bone marrow transplant done, his wife Stacy was unable to accompany him because of a cold that might have endangered his health. Charles Barkley, being a good friend, visited Craig Sager in the hospital back then.

Barkley disobeyed his doctor’s orders and flew from Phoenix to Houston to be there for Sager, despite having had hip replacement surgery himself. Unfortunately, Craig Sager passed away in the same year, leaving his close ones and fans desolate.
