Michael Jordan has made up his mind at last! His Airness wanted to win a championship after his tenure with the Chicago Bulls came to an end. Finishing his career as a player with 6 rings in his hand, the 5-time MVP still has the same number of championships as his 13-year tenure as majority owner with the Hornets has come to an end. Basically, his numerous attempts at another championship turned into a failure, as he is now ready to sell the team for a massive $3 billion. What went wrong, though??
Almost everything! The Hornets under Jordan’s ownership did not have much of an impact. Every big move and decision that the Hornets have taken in the last decade has not benefitted the franchise.?

Let’s start with the fundamental goal. Winning! The Charlotte Hornets in the last thirteen years are ranked as the fifth team for the lowest winning percentage. The Hornets did make some impact in two seasons, i.e. 2014 and 2016, by making it to the postseason. However, they faced an embarrassing first-round exit both times.?
After 2016, the Hornets failed to even make it to the playoffs. Though the team’s front office promised a change to owner Michael Jordan, things have stayed the same way. The Charlotte Hornets bagged the opportunity to draft LaMelo Ball as the third pick in the 2020 Draft. Even though Ball has shown flashes of brilliance, the 21-year-old is yet to make it to the postseason.?
Michael Jordan in 13 seasons as Hornets owner:
• Never won a playoff series
• Never finished higher than 6th in East
• 5th worse winning % in the NBAYet MJ will still make over $2 BILLION on the deal, which is more than he has made from Nike in 40 years.

The franchise has failed miserably to make use of the draft picks as well. In 2012, Charlotte selected Michael Kid Gilchrist as a second pick who is now out of the league. A few superstars who were drafted by other teams after Charlotte were Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal.
The Hornets also selected Frank Kaminsky as the 9th pick in the 2015 draft. Yet again, the Hornets missed the opportunity to draft stars like Devin Booker and Myles Turner. Similarly, in 2014, the Hornet had a great shot at Zach LaVine who ended up with the Wolves.?
The Charlotte Hornets’ poor draft decisions may continue
The Hornets have now bagged the second pick in the upcoming NBA draft. Though French sensation Victor Wembanyama is touted to be the no.1 draft pick, one cannot ignore Scoot Henderson. The 19-year-old is currently being trained by Warriors superstar Stephen Curry. Anyhow, the Hornets might again miss a chance to draft a potential superstar like him.?

A few reports have revealed that the Hornets are willing to trade the second pick for Pelicans star Zion Williamson. The Pelicans’ forward has missed the majority of his career due to injuries. He played only 29 games last season. However, the Hornets are willing to lose a great talent like Henderson for Williamson.
