Legendary comedian Chris Rock made all the headlines while hosting the 2022 Oscars, albeit for not his showmanship but the infamous slap by actor Will Smith. Smith slapped Rock on stage for making fun of his wife Jada Smith’s alopecia. The incident polarized the internet, with people divided over a comedian’s freedom to tell jokes.
Will Smith issued an apology but received no acknowledgment from Chris Rock. Now, about a year later, the comedian has come out with a Netflix special Selective Outrage, where he addresses ‘the slap’. In his quest for humor, however, Rock unleashed an unnecessary attack on the Golden State Warriors‘ Draymond Green.

It seems that Chris Rock had a lot to get off his chest in his stand-up special. He chose Jada Smith again as the butt of his jokes, ripping her apart with comments on alleged extramarital affairs. Although it made for a good laugh for the audience, the jokes here were rather blunt and disparaging.
As if this was not enough, in his setup for a different joke, Rock brought in Draymond Green and his fellow Warrior Stephen Curry. He ranted, “Is this a Steph Curry baby, or a Draymond Green baby? That Draymond baby gon’ have a hard life!”?He went on to add, “He’s ‘sneak up on you’ black”. The jokes were evidently crass at best, especially in the way Rock handled the subject on which his humor rested.
Fans on Twitter did not take it well. One fan commented, “Colorism in 2023”:

But I 100% feel where Will Smith was coming from” He had received backlash for his comment at the time. Fans responded to him advising him to focus on the NBA season, while some sharing that they were tired of such takes on the incident.
