The hype around the Phoenix Suns continues to get louder, even though Kevin Durant has yet to return. After the trade, fans hoped the Suns’ momentum would keep increasing. CP3, KD, and DBook continue to be looked at with a sense of untested reverence. Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal recently weighed in on the situation around the Suns.

In a conversation with former NBA player Jamal Crawford, the 4-time NBA champion talked about the importance of a Suns star, which fans had seemingly forgotten about. Furthermore, Crawford believes the team can win a Championship if the Suns can stay healthy.

DeAndre Ayton, the 7’0 center of the Phoenix Suns, continues his efficient performances. He has managed to be one of the most effective centers in the league this season. Shaquille O’Neal shared with his co-hosts the importance of Ayton in the team and how it may help the Suns win a championship.

Shaq, on the episode, mentioned“When Ayton is not involved in the game, he is ineffective. I think it’s going to be their[CP3, DBook, and KD] to keep him involved in the game. He has to realize he is playing with three guys that can really shoot and play, not going to be looking to pass”.

He continued, “You got to get rebounds, you got to run, you got to block and they have to give him drop-offs. They got to keep him involved. Just give him two-three touches a quarter. You keep him fair, you keep him involved then they have a great chance”

The Lakers legend shared the Suns’ advantage with Ayton: “You know when the other teams go small, and he is involved, if he is active, I’m keeping him in the game cause he can protect. Protect them and protect the rim.”

DeAndre Ayton’s performances this season 

Ayton has been one of the key players for the team in the absence of Chris Paul and Devin Booker this season. Booker, who missed an extended part of the season, returned to the team last week. Ayton is currently averaging 18.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, shooting an efficient 59.3% from the field.

The team has a great shot at the championship, as they have veterans in every position. Proper chemistry can take the Suns to the playoffs, and they might even have an easy path to the title.
