It was a tumultuous year for the Dallas Mavericks’ star point guard Kyrie Irving. A falling out with Nike, backlash for being labeled as antisemitic, and dealing with suspension were only some of the things Irving had to go through during his last year with the Brooklyn Nets. Irving eventually retaliated, lashing out at the naysayers. But it looks like the eight-time All-Star may not be so happy with his new team soon.

During the second half of the 2022-23 NBA season, Kyrie Irving was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks. Many believed that a new atmosphere would bring things back on track. Unfortunately, that did not turn out to be the case.

The trade that brought Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks had many believing that the duo of Irving and Luka Doncic would do wonders. Alas, the team ended up missing out on the playoffs entirely.

The trade that Irving demanded from the Nets stemmed from the franchised not offering him the contract he desired. Which ultimately led to a lot of backlashes, causing Irving to go off as well. All the hate led a ‘disgruntled’ Irving to his ‘corny a** people’ comments on the internet.

Now, with Irving being a free agent this summer, ESPN?s Brian Windhorst believes that the Mavericks will not be offering the 2016 NBA champion the max contract that he has been focusing on.

Reacting to Irving?s actions and his emphasis to bag a huge contract, Windhorst said, ?He?s gonna wanna know what the offer from the Mavericks is. And I?m not sure that the Mavericks are gonna make the offer that Kyrie wants.”

During his time with the Brooklyn Nets, Irving demanded a four-year $196 million contract. It was ultimately rejected by the front office. The fallout between Irving and the Nets over a contract extension was one of the reasons why he demanded a trade.

But will the Mavericks go all in on Irving to keep him around Luka Doncic? No doubt that the two players barely had enough games left on the schedule to get familiar with each other?s preferences on the court.

Nevertheless, will the Mavericks’ front office be willing to gamble a bit shy of $200 million just to see if these two players are compatible? Only time will tell where Irving will play next season. Will he remain with the Dallas Mavericks or don a new jersey for another team?
