Before Kyrie Irving made the trade request, he was offered a contract extension with certain conditions. However, Irving did not agree to the stipulations. Despite the Lakers’ interest, they were hesitant to acquire the 8x NBA All-Star. This was because they knew that Irving would seek the said contract once he became a free agent. As a result, the deal went to the Mavs, and the Nets acquired Dinwiddie and Finney-Smith.

Sources revealed that the Nets are discussing a trade to acquire Toronto Raptors’ Fred VanVleet in exchange for Dinwiddie and draft capital.
