In the new age of the NBA, there has been only one true dynasty – the Golden State Warriors. It all began with a dream that many might have seen as too great to achieve. There was a three-man core at first, comprising Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Until 2014, they found acknowledgment as capable stars who can make an impact. But when they became the integral pieces to a record-breaking season, the perspective changed.
The Chef had become one of the best players on the planet, winning a unanimous MVP. The Bay joined in when they made history as a unit in 2016. As they knocked on the doors of their dynasty days, Curry made sure he rewarded everyone that helped him along the journey.

‘Look Good, Feel Good‘ – a phrase that might seem empty at first. Yet for some NBA athletes, their bold and confident appearance is enough to set the tone. That seemed to be the case with Stephen Curry, who in 2016 wore his trademark short hair fade. The reigning MVP might have had some slumps that season, but his hair game never disappointed. The man responsible for his on-point looks?- JayR Mallari, owner of Legacy Barber Studio.
He cut the Baby Faced Assassin‘s hair all season long, making sure he always looks the part of a defending champion and a historic MVP. That year Curry produced brilliance, cementing himself in the rare company of back-to-back MVP award holders. He averaged 30.1 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.4 rebounds while playing in 79 games that season. Once again he was an All-Star and an All-NBA first-team selection.

That season marked the year Curry truly ascended as the perennial shooting threat. And he did so with style. His look never disappointed, and so he had to reward the man who made sure he always looked fresh. According to GQ, Stephen Curry gifted Mallari a signed pair of his signature shoes with an inscription – “MVP cuts from the MVB #MostValuableBarber?.
It was a gesture fitting to the kind-hearted and selfless character of the Warriors ace. He even surprised Mallari in 2018 when he walked into his ‘Xbox Barbershop’ during the NBA All-Star weekend. All in all, it was a season that will always hold a special place, not just for Steph Curry, but also JayR Mallari.

Not only did he win individual accolades, but the 2016 Warriors etched themselves in the history books. They finished the season with a 73-9 record, beating the previous 72-10 held by the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan. While they couldn’t wrap up the perfect season due to a LeBron James masterclass in the Finals, the season was still memorable.
