After Michael Jordan, the net athlete who made Number 23 what it is today is arguably LeBron James. Deemed to be the next MJ, James shouldered all the pressure by donning the iconic number. Two decades later and he is now all set to make history as the all-time leading scorer of the NBA. However, it won’t be with the usual 23 on the back. Notably, the King began his run with the Lakers with 23. But when Anthony Davis came in, he decided to give it away to him in 2021. On opening night, facing a long-time foe Stephen Curry, the 19-time All-Star came out with number 6 on his back in purple and gold for the first time. According to a recent report, that jersey is set to hit the auction house.

Similar to Kobe Bryant, LeBron James has had iconic moments with both 23 and 6. Notably, the Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the NBA universe with a 30 comeback in 2016. That was the first and only championship James won with his initial number. On the other hand, The Akron Hammer wore 6 during his sensational run with the Miami Heat. Each number has a rich history attached to it.

Will this LeBron James memorabilia beat Jordan?

All eyes were on the Lakers during the 2021-22 opening night. Fans were left wondering how Russell Westbrook would fair with the Lakers. In addition, it was another chapter in the LeBron James-Steph Curry saga. James checked in with the number 6 for the first time in his Lakers career. While they ended up losing, the King fired away. Scoring a game-high 34 points and 11 rebounds, his number 6 debut was far from disappointing.

Before James’ 2013 Game 7 jersey auction, His Airness saw one of his jerseys see the bids. It was from the 1998 NBA finals, the last championship of the historic Chicago Bulls dynasty. Shockingly, the bidding ended at an eye-opening $10.8 million. To this day that is the highest amount for any sports jersey in history.

LeBron James’ first-ever game-worn number jersey for the Lakers is surely a piece of history. However, it arguably doesn’t have enough of a story attached to reach Jordan’s or even his previous Miami Heat auction price. But when it comes to these bids, there is no predictable pattern.
