Brittney Griner has spent more than 200 days in prison now. With the whole world keeping an eye on her and the date for the next appeal fast approaching, the pressure is immense.

Recently, Griner was on a phone call with her wife Cherelle. Griner’s wife described the call as ‘disturbing’ and also revealed the horrid living conditions inside the jail.

The 6-foot-9 inches star was allotted a small bed in her cell which was nowhere close to being comfortable. The Phoenix Mercury star shares her cell with two individuals who speak English and was charged with similar violations. Griner was arrested earlier this year when officials found illegal substances in her luggage.

Freedom in jail is rare and Griner is only allowed outdoors for one hour. Moreover, she along with the other inmates is allowed to have a bath only twice a week.

This has taken a toll on Brittney Griner’s mental and physical health. Cherelle Griner talked about how her wife is “at her absolute weakest moment in life right now” and also “expressed concern that Griner may not have the mental fortitude to forge on“.

Moreover, Griner’s lawyer said, “She has not been in as good condition as I could sometimes find her in.” Due to the sensitivity of the case, negotiations have been tough. Officials from both countries are trying to find a solution with a prisoner swap being discussed.

A new appeal date announced for Brittney Griner as she serves her sentence

Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner has been sentenced to nine years in prison. However, officials have been trying their best to bring her back to the United States of America.

Recently, reports stated that the court will be entertaining pleas from Griner’s camp on the 25th of October. Since the last few months, negotiations have been very slow regarding Griner’s situation.

In case of a prisoner swap, notorious arms dealer Viktor Bout would be sent to Russia. On the other hand, Brittney Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan would be sent back to the United States of America.

Many have been against this move with arguments suggesting that she should complete her sentence because she broke the law. However, it seems the government would be willing to undertake this measure as the POTUS himself had approved the swap.
