Basketball superstar Candace Parker has been garnering the attention of hoops buffs ever since the 2023 WNBA season started. On May 26, Parker and the Las Vegas Aces locked horns with the Los Angeles Sparks. During her LA homecoming, Parker paid tribute to the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant and her daughter Gianna Bryant. She wore a replica of Gianna’s AAU jersey and Kobe’s retro Adidas signature sneakers prior to the game. Following that, a fellow WNBA star grew emotional while speaking about Candace Parker recently.

The 2022 WNBA champion A’ja Wilson recently appeared on an episode of Podcast P With Paul George.?Wilson and Paul George spoke about hot basketball topics at length. The Las Vegas superstar opined that LeBron James can accomplish more feats on the hardwood after taking some time out to rejuvenate. While she was speaking about her career, one of the co-hosts asked Wilson who all were her basketball idols. A’ja Wilson did not think twice. She revealed that she grew up idolizing her current teammate, Candace Parker.

As Wilson put it, she first saw Parker in Tennessee when the Tennessee Lady Volunteers team retired Candace Parker’s jersey. Later, the 26-year-old got the chance to lock horns with her idol on the court. “It was just incredible to watch her[Candace Parker] and I remember I went to like a game. She was playing Elena Delle Donne. I was like, damn, she kinda nice. And then fast forward to years later, she was blocking my shot. Man, I can’t stand her. I was mad. But no, it was super dope to really compete against her. Now just practicing is like super dope,” A’ja Wilson said.

A’ja Wilson pointed out that she was drawn towards Candace Parker from a young age, as Parker looked like her. Besides, Parker’s stunning skill set had also mesmerized a young Wilson.

“It is crazy to say that she is my teammate now. Young A’ja in me will be like, ahhhh like girl…It’s one of those things like your idols become your rivals and then become your teammates,”?Wilson said.

Candace Parker joined the defending champions, Las Vegas Aces in February. A’ja Wilson had the best time of her life last season as she claimed both the MVP award and the WNBA ring. Now that Wilson is paired up with her idol, glorious days are coming for Las Vegas.
