NBA all-time great Shaquille O’Neal is one of the richest former athletes ever. Over the course of his career, O’Neal made millions which became the platform for him to invest. From his NBA salaries, endorsements, investments, business ventures, etc O’Neal made his fortune. Interestingly, Shaq claimed he is willing to purchase the Orlando Magic not so long ago, the organization that drafted him. The Magic has not had a good season in the last few years. O’Neal and his former teammate Scott Parker from the Magic said they are open to purchasing the team.

While the Magic ownership is not looking to sell, there is another organization that Shaq played is open to. Robert Sarver, owner of the Phoenix Suns and Mercury came under fire after workplace misconduct allegations. So the NBA made a lengthy independent investigation and announced a one-year suspension and a $10 million fine for Sarver reportedly.

After NBA’s announcement, Sarver made a statement saying that he is “beginning the process of seeking buyers for the Suns and Mercury.” Immediately after, there were rumors of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos being interested in purchasing the organization.

Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t want to mess with Jeff Bezos

In the latest episode of Shaq’s podcast called ‘The Big Tree’, co-host Nischelle Turner reminded Shaquille O’Neal about his comments on buying the Magic. She then wanted to know whether he is interested in the Phoenix organization that is up for sale. “I was open until I saw the initials J.B. Let me tell you something, you don’t mess with James Brown and you don’t mess with Jeff Bezos,” Shaq admitted.

He continued, “When Jeff said he wanted in and a couple other heavy hitters they wanted to, I am not even gonna put my name on the bucket on this one. I’m not.”

Jeff Bezos recently dropped to #4 in the list of richest people in the world after Indian Businessman Gautam Adani captured the #3 spot. However, Bezos is still worth a mindboggling $137.2 billion. Founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk still holds the #1 spot on the list.

Interestingly, Bezos is not the only interested party. As per reports, Former Disney CEO Bob Iger, owner of the Los Angeles Angels Arturo Moreno, and Musk are also interested. The Suns had a great season in 2021 reaching the NBA finals. They still have a good team on their hands and might benefit from a supportive owner.

Over the course of the next few weeks, it will be interesting to see who finally buys the Phoenix organization.
