Charles Barkley never holds back when expressing his thoughts. Ever since joining Inside the NBA crew on the TNT network, he has been more vocal about issues. He has generated both controversy and laughter alike with his free-flow style of narration. Therefore, it is not a surprise that he has a no-holds-barred approach even when it comes to his family. He talked about the perception of amenities among different generations.
In this regard, the former Phoenix Suns ace made some observations about the way his daughter Christiana Barkley had luxuries that he never had. He also touched upon how he grew up in different conditions and didn’t get the same benefits as his daughter.

Charles Barkley talks about contrasting times
Chuck had a tough childhood. His father abandoned him, then his brother Rennie died when he was an infant. His stepfather met his demise in an accident, so there were a lot of tragic tales that defined the early life of the Chuckster. However, he still received support from his family and thrived in his formative years. He wasn’t a well-scouted high-school player, but once he entered the college ranks, he was turning heads with his motor as an undersized Center.
His book “I May Be Wrong but I Doubt It” is a memoir that was published in 2002. In this book, he reminisced about his early years and the experience of holidays, “I never had any sense, though, that we were doing without. There were no luxuries, but we had everything we needed. The holidays were cool because the three of us knew our mother and grandmother were going to find a way to get you one really nice thing you really wanted”.

The Rebounding phenom has amassed a net worth of $60 million and was elite when he wrote the book. He contrasts this experience with the one that her daughter was having at the time. She was around 13 years old when the book was published. “Now my daughter gets ten things. She gets stuff from people who aren’t her family. Kids now get a roomful of things, and you have to wonder how appreciative they are because there’s no sense on their part that these things were difficult to come by, that somebody had to sacrifice to get them”.
Barkley doesn’t hesitate to take jibes at his own daughter
The Inside the NBA commentator married Maureen Blumhardt in 1989. Blumhardt was pursuing a modeling career before marrying Barkley when he was a part of the Philadelphia 76ers. Love blossomed and Maureen gave birth to Christiana in the same year of the marriage.
Now Christiana is herself, a mother of multiple children. The former Philly Power Forward has taken a shot at his own daughter when he was celebrating his 60th Birthday with Ernie Johnson. He quipped, “She is pregnant again; yeah, they are getting it in. Henry’s [Barkey’s first grandson] is like 10, 11 months, and she’s like five months pregnant. I mean, damn, take a night off yall”.

This statement sums up the personality of the renowned NBA Legend. If he is not going to let his own daughter off the hook, then it is not surprising that he can taunt personalities outside of his family. Barkley’s gambling issues are well known, and he has admitted to spending millions in a few hours on gambling. However, he has managed his wealth well by overcoming his gambling addiction.

At any rate, his daughter has benefitted from the fruits of his labor. However, she did name his grandchild after him, which is an enormous gesture. Do you think Chuckster is right about the lack of acknowledgment among youth about the hard work of their caretakers?
