But, amidst all this, she’s also in the news for talking about her problems and her trauma. She discusses how long-term trauma affects people’s mental health.
She’s been through a dark phase in her life in the past. So, it doesn’t surprise us when she’s advocating for mental health awareness movements. While she loves to dedicate her time to the betterment of people, she also loves to dedicate some to her husband, the NBA legend, Dwyane Wade. In her recent interview, she opens up about her personal life and her struggles with people’s behaviors and decision-making.

Union is a survivor of sexual assault. Since the age of 19, she has had PTSD and anxiety because of the incident.
The award-winning actress talks about her trauma several times over the years. She feels if she opens up about her issues, it may encourage others to do so as well. She hopes this way more people also seek help.
She’s a well-recognized advocate for mental health awareness who lends her support to the people who need it. A well-known celebrity like Union talking about mental health issues is why people respect her even more.
In an interview on Skip Intro podcast with Krista Smith she speaks about trauma and ways to deal with it. She rightly acknowledges and embraces all that’s wrong in her life, everything wrong inflicted on her by others. This way, she believes people can come to terms with trauma and start healing. In fact, she also believes in breaking “trauma bonds” and coming to terms with the hard-hitting realities of life.
On the podcast, she mentions, “I don’t think it’s possible to truly love yourself completely when you’re addicted to being chosen.” She says that as part of self-love and self-realization, one must not pay attention to what others think of them.

Union said that it is not her job to care about what other people think of her. Although very tough thing to do, she said that once she realized and implemented this in her life, she achieved freedom. She said “I’m good in every hood, being exactly who the hell I am,” to emphasize the important life lesson she has learned over the years.
