Michael Jordan is widely being celebrated as the greatest player to have ever played basketball. However, this mythical stature of MJ has not prevented his critics from challenging his legacy. It is not unheard of for NBA fans to see critics rushing in and scrutinizing Jordan’s life and legacy. Many debate if MJ23 is as great as he is commonly revered. Some even highlight every other mishap in the 6x-NBA champion’s life, just to show the world that even His Airness has got a lot of imperfections. A former NBA star has recently taken this path to shed light on some of MJ’s shortcomings only to walk back on the critique, moments later.

The former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas has been garnering the attention of the hoops world by being highly vocal about matters pertaining to the NBA. Recently, Arenas has talked about Michael Jordan at great length. At one point, the ex-NBA star threw jibes at MJ’s legacy. However, he quickly stopped the critique and praised Jordan for his abilities.

In his recent appearance in an episode of I am Athlete, Gilbert Arenas put Michael Jordan’s legacy in dubious light. Since LeBron James is widely regarded as MJ’s successor, Arenas dragged in LeBron to the discourse. “The way he[Michael Jordan] lived his life, he would not be perfect like LeBron is,” said Gilbert Arenas. Arenas highlighted some of MJ’s shortcomings, including his back-to-back gambling stints, and said that those escapades have tarnished Jordan’s legacy. LeBron, on the other hand as pointed out by Arenas, has not indulged in any escapade that will make LeBron’s legacy debatable.

One of the co-hosts told Arenas that it will be better if they discuss Michael Jordan’s legacy as a ballplayer rather than talking about his personal life. The same co-host asked Gil if MJ will be a good player if the latter got the chance to play in this era. “He would be dominant,” Gilbert Arenas answered. “There are certain players that are just generational. So when you are talking about a person like Michael Jordan, his abilities over-exceed his errors because he was, he was the caviar,” Arenas added.

Another take in favor of Michael Jordan

Though Gilbert Arenas had spoken more highly about LeBron James in comparison with Michael Jordan, this time, once, he did the exact opposite. Few days back, it was widely debated that LeBron did not instill fear in his opponents like Michael Jordan did. Arenas chimed in on the issue in favor of Jordan. Arenas emphasized that His Airness had the upper hand over LeBron on the offensive end. Apparently, Arenas also observed that Jordan instilled more fear among opponents than LeBron.
