On June 11, 1997, one of the most memorable NBA Finals match took place in Utah. In a game that has since been dubbed as the ‘Flu Game’, Michael Jordan had a performance of a lifetime. Scoring 38 points which included a 3-pointer to take the lead, Jordan had an impressive outing that night. Later going on to state that he almost “passed out”, the game was a testament to Michael Jordan and his greatness.

Almost 25 years later, The Last Dance breathed new life into this all-time classic. Letting younger fans resonate with the drama surrounding this game, the ‘flu game’ now has a newer rejuvenated meaning. It’s rise in popularity was seen clearly when memorabilia from that famous game were sold for 7 figures recently.

The pair was lost into oblivion for 16 years before making its first round to the auction block. In 2013, Preston consigned this jewel to an auctioneer which shockingly sold for a measly sum of $104,000. Although a lot more money than it must have initially costed, the pair now went on the auction block for a second time this year and yielded a completely different outcome.

In a recent auction the pair of 12’s was sold for a staggering $1.38 million, fetching 10 times more than it did back in 2013. Even though the GOAT himself cleared the air during the Netflix documentary that the Flu game was indeed a food poisoning incident, the shoe still holds a significant historical value. With the pair now being sold at over a million dollars the next auction would only fetch more.

Belonging to the same game as the aforementioned sneakers, the entire hardwood from the 1997 finals was auctioned off for $1 million. Trading card company Upper Deck paid that amount to acquire the memorabilia.
