The season is over for the Dallas Mavericks as they lost their last game against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. As a result of this, the Mavs fans feared they might lose their cornerstone player, Luka Doncic in the near future. However, the Slovenian revealed that he would not be leaving. Doncic also recently received a fair amount of flak in the process of getting compared with a 10x All-Star from a notable sports media personality.

Colin Cowherd is noted in the sports world for making headlines. He drew reactions from many after he called the great Michael Jordan a failure last month. His claim was very controversial, and recently he made another similar claim. Cowherd compared Doncic with Carmelo Anthony and pointed out everything that he felt was wrong.

Cowherd was recently joined by the Hoops Tonight host, Jason Timpf on his podcast, The Colin Cowherd?Podcast.?They spoke about a myriad of topics and in one instance, the sports media personality started talking about Doncic. He said, “We?re falling in love with this great hyper, offensive player. Moody, difficult, needs ball, won?t defend. Is he gonna end up [like] Carmelo Anthony?

Timpf responded by saying that it was an interesting comparison. He further brought up LeBron James and said he was just a bit better than Melo but eventually got better while the 10x All-Star remained the same. Cowherd replied, “LeBron got along with players – could play with more players – amicable to different styles. Luka so far isn’t.

Anthony was one of the best offensive players in the league. However, his defense left a lot to be desired. The Mavericks guard’s playing style is also similar to the former New York Knicks player.

Due to this style of play, the four-time All-Star was subjected to criticism as fans believed that if he played defense on the hardwood, then the outcome of many games would have been different. However, Doncic would definitely try to remove the stigma of a bad defensive player when he comes back to the court next season.

Doncic’s performance in the 2022-23 season

The Slovenian had an impressive season as he averaged a career-best 32.4 points per game. Incidentally, he was the runner for the 2023 NBA Scoring Title award.
