NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki and Jessica Olsson tied the knot in 2012 after they first met in 2010. Interestingly, the couple met during an auction as Jessica worked at an art gallery at the time. In their 11 years of marriage, the pair have had three children. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, one year after their marriage in 2013. They then had two sons who were born in 2015 and 2016. After the birth of their third child, Nowitzki opened up about his parenting style while recounting his father’s way.

Nowitzki was born on June 19, 1978. It was an era where many parents physically disciplined their children. Notably, Shaquille O’Neal, who is also from the same generation, has multiple times talked about his stepfather’s similar style. However, he has always made it clear that it helped him become successful.

Nowitzki’s unique parenting style

Dirk Nowitzki talked about parenting while discussing racial and social justice during an interview. He noted that parents are always worried about their children. The Dallas Mavericks legend believed that respect is important to keeping kids safe along with education and discipline. He added that parents should educate their children early about higher authority, teachers, parents, or others and that they should be respected.

The 14x NBA All-Star believed that this could come in handy when children are faced with situations like running into a cop. While discussing this, Nowitzki talked about his father’s parenting style. Notably, he once revealed that his father wanted him to take over the family business.

According to a report from Andscape, “Nowitzki recalls his father playing ?no games? with him as a child and having a belt hanging over a lamp if needed for discipline. Nowitzki said he instills discipline and respect with his kids, but also love.”

Nowitzki added that he is trying to raise his children with love but also with authority wherever required. He added that he tries to find the right mix of love and authority. The Hall of Famer stated that is how his children are brought up in his household.

The couple then started dating after the event and were married in 2012. The 2007 NBA MVP recently spoke about the unique wedding rituals of his Kenyan wife.
