Shaquille O’Neal remembers LeBron James’ brutal reminder to his naysayers about their own failures in life in his most recent Instagram story. LeBron James is one of the richest athletes in the history of sports and certainly one of the wealthiest NBA player.

But his accomplishments off the court are a mere reflection of his dominance on it. He has established himself as one of the greatest players ever in basketball, if not the very greatest.

However, even with all his accolades and stellar performances, he faced a lot of media criticism throughout his career. In fact, he still does to this day, even if it is much more subdued.

LeBron James’ response to critics after the 2011 NBA finals

LeBron James became a basketball sensation in his high school days. His potential was so high and his performances so great that he was ordained as ‘the chosen one’ to rival Michael Jordan‘s stellar legacy from the very inception of his career.

James not only maintained his brilliance after entering the league, but exceeded all expectations. However, the media criticisms piled on after he repeatedly failed to win a championship after spending years in the league.

Critics praised him for almost single-handedly taking the Cleveland Cavaliers to the 2007 NBA finals. But they still faulted him for not winning a chip. The criticisms became more scathing after James left Cleveland to form a ‘superteam’ in Miami with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

James and the Heat lost the 2011 NBA finals to the Dallas Mavericks despite being the favorites. As a result, the jibes from fans and the media reached their peak. It almost turned into mockery and insults.

Therefore, Shaquille O’Neal shared a resurfaced video from 2011 and applauded LeBron James’ strong stance on the naysayers.

LeBron James becomes the NBA Champion

LeBron James would finally vindicate himself after winning the 2012 NBA championship against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Moreover, he would also bag the Finals MVP trophy.

However, James’ 45-point performance against the Celtics in an elimination game in the Eastern Conference finals would cement his legacy as a superstar. Nobody could question his clutch qualities anymore.
