The 2021-22 NBA Regular season has almost reached the mid-way mark with the All-Star Weekend and the Trade deadline arriving in less than a month’s time. However, the situation surrounding the future of Ben Simmons as a part of the Philadelphia 76ers remains murky, to say the least.
As the Sixers continue to fine Ben Simmons, what seems highly likely is the completion of a trade by the front office involving the star Point Guard prior to the Feb 10th deadline.
One such offer for Simmons was made by the Detroit Pistons – and it was a crazy one!

Report: Detroit Pistons included Jerami Grant in huge offer for Ben Simmons
“The Pistons’ package of Grant, Saddiq Bey, Kelly Olynyk and a first-round pick, for example, was not met with much enthusiasm by Philadelphia brass.” https://t.co/idUiKhYkLm

That’s right! The Sixers front office declined a trade where they could have potentially received rising star, Jerami Grant. It clearly looks like the Sixers want to replace Simmons with a Jordan-esque or a LeBron-level player in order to make a serious challenge for the title.
Let’s analyze the trade and look at some fan reactions surrounding this trade request.
Fan Reactions to Ben Simmons Trade Package
Twitter went berserk with a mixed bag of reactions when the news of the trade rejection broke out. Some fans cited the Sixers’ adamance in rejecting the trade

The 76ers want Michael Jordan and Lebron James and a couple first round picks. Getting ridiculous.

Some supported the Sixers’ front office decision. They argued that the Pistons’ trio would not be a good fit for the 76ers.
76ers might be better off with some package from the Sacramento Kings involving PG De'Aaron Fox, SG Buddy Hield, SF Harrison Barnes, PF Marvin Bagley III, first round pick(s), etc.
Or….try and pry PG Damian Lillard away from the Portland TrailBlazers.

Others believe Simmons will be part of a sign and trade that would bring James Harden to the 76ers.
Morey already knows Harden will come to Philly. He’s holding Simmons for a sign & trade with the Nets this summer

A star, Morey is holding Simmons for a Harden sign and trade or for a Dame, Beal or Brown type lmao
Sounds like he’d rather package Simmons and picks to get one of those

Analysis of Ben Simmons Trade Package
Looking at the trade package, what seems to be the most obvious improvement for the Sixers is three-point shooting. Although the Pistons’ trio don’t shoot so well from beyond the arc, it certainly is an improvement over Ben Simmons, who barely even attempts three-pointers.
Added to this, the Pistons’ trio, if traded, would have improved the Sixers scoring and rebounding. However, assist numbers is where Simmons would have the upper hand as he alone would nearly cover the number of assists generated by the Pistons’ trio.
Bear in mind that Simmons’ numbers point to his averages last season because of his absence this year, while the numbers of the Pistons’ trio belong to the current season.
Added to this, the Sixers would also receive a first-round draft pick which they could have then used in a future trade. Whatever the case may be, the Sixers wish to receive a trade package that can make them into championship contenders. In addition to this, Sixers fans have been longing for success for their franchise.

Clearly, ‘The Process’ does not seem to be moving forward in the absence of Simmons. With no end in sight, the disparity between Simmons and the very franchise that gave him the opportunity to play in the league seems endless. Hence, it only seems fitting that both parties end their partnership.
