Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of the all-time greats of the game. He was one of the best centers ever. Despite his physicality and size, he played the game with great finesse. His skyhook was almost unstoppable and his opponents struggled to keep up with him. He has always been a superstar ever since he started playing basketball in his school days. However, it looks like he was not always comfortable with his size.

The six-time champion constantly uses his platform and popularity to talk about issues in the community. He has been doing it from a very young stage and continues to do so with his website. Recently, Abdul-Jabbar replied to questions from his fans on his website. In one instance, he talked about one of the struggles he faced during his school years; his 7’2″ frame.

“It’s as awkward as you imagine. Most kids that age are trying to blend in, not stick out. And especially not stick out because of something physical, which is catnip to cruel kids to taunt you with. It certainly didn’t make me feel attractive to the girls my age,” he said.

Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s incredible career

After high school, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar went on to play for legendary head coach John Wooden at UCLA. He had one of the best college careers ever. Playing three years of college basketball, he has won three NCAA titles. He has also won three NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player awards, National college player of the year awards, and was a three-time Consensus first-team?All-American.

He met his future spouse Habiba during a Lakers game while he was in college. The two tied the knot and had three children together. The couple was then divorced in 1978. He had another son with Cheryl Pistono.

After three great years at UCLA, he declared for the NBA draft. The Milwaukee Bucks selected him as the first overall pick in the 1969 NBA draft. He took the league by storm and won the Rookie of the Year award. Abdul-Jabbar played for the Bucks for six years and helped them win a title in 1971 and also won the finals MVP award. Furthermore, he clinched the regular season MVP award as well.

He won two more MVP awards during his time with the Bucks. The superstar then joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975. He played 14 seasons for the Lakers and won five championships. During his time with the Purple and Gold, he won the MVP award three more times. In 1984, he became the NBA?s all-time scoring leader. He finished his career with 38,387 points in 1989.

For accomplishments, the Lakers retired his #33 jersey and honored him with his statue in front of the then Staples Center.
