Donovan was linked to the New York Knicks heavily before he made the decision to join the Cavs. Interestingly enough, former Cavs player Shaquille O’Neal gave his thoughts regarding Donovan on the latest episode of his podcast.
Shaq said, “I’mma tell Donovan the same thing my father told me. If you do what I tell you to do Donovan, you wouldn’t have all these problems.” He then goes on to talk about how Mitchell can be one of the greats. According to Shaq, Donovan has great speed, handles, and also scoring ability which can really make him great.
Interestingly enough, while talking about Mitchell, Shaq brings in Rudy Gobert into his reasoning. The former NBA champion talked about how Mitchell can be one of the greats only if he wants to. Shaq said, “When I talk about how Rudy Gobert was, what happened three weeks ago? If he’s so good, why’d he get traded.“
This is not the first time Shaq has taken shots at Rudy. It all started back in 2019 when Shaq told Gobert to ‘man up’ after the French International was snubbed from the All-Star weekend.

Moreover, after Shaq talked about how Rudy will not be able to guard him, it forced Gobert to react. ‘I would lock his a** up‘ wrote the former Defensive Player of the Year under an Instagram post.
