Dwight Howard has watched the 2022-23 season from the sidelines so far after not being retained by the Los Angeles Lakers this year. Howard won his only championship title with the Lakers alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis in 2020. After a one-year stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, the eight-time All-Star returned to the Lakers in 2021-22. Recently, the 7 ft Lakers veteran has expressed his desire to make his NBA return alongside Stephen Curry at the Golden State Warriors.

Howard expressed his desire to play for the?Golden State Warriors during a recent interview with NFL legend Shannon Sharpe on his Club Shay Shay podcast. Sharpe asked Howard his take on playing for the Warriors. The former Lakers center stated he had been a Warrior his whole life since school. The 36-year-old laid about some compelling arguments why the Warriors should pick him.

Dwight Howard wants to play with Stephen Curry

Dwight Howard reckoned he could make the Warriors team better with his abilities and experience. Moreover, he suggested that 21-year-old James Wiseman could learn how to become a dependable big man in the league from him.

Further, Howard continued, “Steph, the way he get open, with me setting screens, he’s gonna get more wide open. Klay [Thompson] the same way. Draymond [Green] in the pick-and-roll me and him. Me being able to teach Wiseman how to play defense, how to block shots.”

Howard explained that the Warriors need a big man and he could fulfill the responsibility. He felt that Stephen Curry, Thompson, Green, and other youngsters on the team could benefit from his presence this season.

Also, he pointed out that he was not done yet and would like to play his 19th season before bidding farewell to the NBA.

Should the Warriors acquire Dwight Howard?

Dwight Howard was selected as the first overall pick with the Orlando Magic in the 2004 NBA draft. He stayed with the franchise till 2012, before signing with the Los Angeles Lakers. Howard established his importance on both sides of the field while playing for many teams in the NBA.

Unfortunately, the last few seasons have been tough for Howard at the twilight of his career. Last season, Dwight Howard played 60 games for the Lakers, averaging 6.2 points, and 5.9 rebounds per game.

Thus, it would be a tough bet for the Warriors to put their money on the veteran. However, it will be interesting to see if the former Lakers star’s recent comments stir a response from the Warriors.
