Brittney Griner, the Phoenix Mercury star who was detained in Russia at the beginning of this year, is still in prison. NBA players have expressed their concern over the situation following the seven-time WNBA All-Star being detained in Russia. Griner’s supporters came forward to speak out. One of the NBA players who has spoken out on Griner’s release is Miami Heat legend,?Dwyane Wade.

His involvement in the case has been through social media and Wade has shared his thoughts on it. A while back, fans saw Wade posting a picture of him and his daughter wearing a BG shirt. Not only that, but in light of the recent news on the Russian court setting appeal on 24 October, Wade has posted a video of Griner, voicing his support in demanding that she be returned home.

Brittney Griner gets a court date appeal for 29th October

A Russian court has set an appeal date for Griner’s case. Griner was initially sentenced to nine years in prison. She is reportedly scheduled to appear in court on the 29th of October.

In response to Griner’s nine-year charge, her lawyers said her sentence was “absolutely unreasonable” and that an appeal would be filed. Notably, Brittney Griner pleaded guilty to the charges, stating that had no intentions of breaking any law.?

“That’s why I pled guilty to my charges. I understand everything that’s been said against me, the charges that are against me and that is why I pled guilty, but I had no intent to break any Russian laws,”? Griner said in a statement, according to CNN.
