It seems like the NBA finals were not the times Charles Barkley had felt the most pressure. It is not even related to shooting hoops. The Round Mound of Rebound recently admitted that working as a host was the hardest thing he had ever done. In the latest episode of the The Steam Room podcast, Chuck talked about his experience as the host of the Saturday Night Live show.

Being an NBA player is not easy. But apparently, for Charles Barkley, hosting the Saturday Night Live was a more dreadful task. In the latest episode of his podcast, Barkley and co-host Ernie Johnson had a brief video chat with three-time Emmy award winner Bill Hader. While both Hader and Chuck came from different professional backgrounds, there was one thing in common between them. Both had hosted the late-night show. During the chat, Barkley asked Hader the number of times he appeared on SNL. Hader replied that he has been doing skits in the show for about eight years.

In response, the former Phoenix Suns star confessed that it was the hardest thing he had ever done in his life. Interestingly, Barkley only worked on the show for about seven days, but it ended up becoming the most brutal week of his life.

Recalling the hectic schedule he had to follow, Barkley said, “That’s the most pressure I’ve ever felt.”

Seven days of work exhausts NBA veteran Charles Barkley

Charles Barkley and actor Bill Hader talked about the times they appeared in SNL. While Hader had been doing it for eight years, just hosting the show four times wore out Barkley. In the podcast episode, Hader stated that Chuck was the only person who caused actress Kristen Wiig to break character in the show.

Barkley then recalled how crazy the week was for him. In a nutshell, Barkley’s busy week began with going through multiple skit ideas for about four hours. On Tuesday, he had to go through five hours of discussion with his co-actors and writers. And then about 10-12 hours of practice from Wednesday to Saturday. But that’s not all; the actors had to do a dress rehearsal for a genuine audience on Saturday evening before finally performing in front of live television.

“I was like, I’m so nervous. Because I don’t want to sit there and look like a j*ck*ss when these guys are great. But it was fun! But man, I got so much respect for you guys to do that every week,” said Barkley.
