When fans talk about the best centers in the history of the NBA, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlain are some of the names that get thrown into the mix. However, one name that people perhaps do not mention as much is that of?Houston Rockets legend, Hakeem Olajuwon. However, that may soon change as the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award is being named after him.?

But fans claiming that he is the best center of all time may end up hurting the likes of Shaquille O?Neal and his fans. Notably, Shaq has won more championships than Olajuwon, it has sparked a huge debate among fans on the internet.

Hakeem Olajuwon brought the only two NBA championships to the Houston Rockets back in the 90s. The Rockets made the most of it by winning back-to-back championships following?Michael Jordan?s first retirement.?

With the Defensive Player of the Year award being named after the Rockets legend, Olajuwon said, ?That?s the crown. That sealed my career. It can?t be anything higher than that.?

Was Olajuwon better than Shaquille O’Neal?

There have been many great centers before and even after Olajuwon was in the league. Two names that come right before him are Bill Russell and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Bill Russell has of course the most NBA championships under his belt.

Whereas Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the record for most points in NBA history along with the most MVP awards as well. And then there is Shaquille O?Neal, who may not have as many accolades as Russell or Abdul-Jabbar, but he arguably was the most dominant center in the history of the league.
