NBA legend?Michael Jordan?is one of the most prolific scorers the game has ever seen. However, it sometimes comes at the cost of others. Not just his opponents but at the cost of his teammates as well. Make no mistake, Jordan was the best player in his iconic Chicago Bulls team and arguably the best player ever. While playing alongside him had a lot of perks, there were also some downsides.

One such downside was not getting a more significant share of the basketball, and NBA legend?Scottie Pippen?suffered from this the most out of all his teammates. This is because of Pippen’s scoring prowess, which he also had to share with his other teammates.

In?The Jordan Rules?book by Sam Smith, the author talks about an incident when Scottie Pippen was annoyed about not getting enough of the ball despite playing great. It was during a game between the?Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. Smith noted that Pippen usually plays well against the Lakers because James Worthy was too slow to handle Pippen. The forward was on a tear that game making 9 of 15 from the field and scoring 18 points in the first half. However, he had just 5 attempts in the second half and wanted better service.

The Bulls went on to lose the game 99-86. Michael Jordan was angry at the loss and the bench’s contribution to the game. At one point, he reportedly yelled at John Paxson for passing the ball to Will Perdue. Smith wrote,?“We don’t seem to get the right people the right shots,’ Jordan said afterward. He yelled at Paxson for passing to Perdue, who shot 2 of 11. ‘He can’t do anything with the ball. Don’t give it to him,’ Jordan demanded Paxson during the game.”

In sixty minutes from 6 players, the Bulls bench scored a total of just 4 points. Whenever Jordan and Pippen were on the bench, the team struggled massively.

Scottie Pippen accepted his role

Scottie Pippen could have easily been the leading man and the go-to guy in almost every other team in the NBA at the time. And he was aware of it as well. So it was frustrating for him to receive the ball far less than Michael Jordan.

Even though Pippen was sometimes frustrated, he ultimately decided to play second fiddle to MJ. Furthermore, the five-time NBA MVP was much more efficient than Pippen from the field, which justified his more prominent share of the basketball.
