Jordan disclosed a habit he had picked up while playing baseball in high school. And that was chewing tobacco. Jordan talked about this habit of his in an interview with Kevin Cook.
Michael Jordan opened up about chewing tobacco
Cook asked MJ whether he chewed tobacco. And Jordan said, ?Not this time. I tried it back in high school baseball?peer pressure?and got a little sick. So in the minor leagues I stuck to sunflower seeds. I?d spit them all over the dugout, practicing my accuracy. We played basketball that way, spitting seeds at a Gatorade cup. I got better at it, but not to a professional level.?
Chewing tobacco was very common among baseball players at the time. So when he started playing baseball again, he wanted to change his ways and not chew tobacco. MJ chose to go with sunflower seeds when he played minor league baseball with the Barons. Despite the efforts of the MLB to remove smokeless tobacco from the league, it is still there.
