Ever since his playing days in the NBA, Michael Jordan has always had a fondness for golf. There have been plenty of stories of MJ playing golf with numerous NBA legends, even getting extremely competitive. He has also shared the course with some notable golfers as well. One of them is a member of his Grove XXIII golf club, Rickie Fowler, who just rewrote history a few days ago. He had opened up on the impact of His Airness on his career a couple of years ago.

Fowler recorded the lowest score of 8 under 62 on the opening day during the ongoing 123rd US Open Championship in LA. But before making history, Fowler had given an insight into his close personal relationship with the Chicago Bulls legend.

Rickie Fowler’s historic performance in the first round of the US Open was short-lived as Xander Schauffele achieved the lowest-ever opening-round score only after a matter of minutes. However, that does not take away from Fowler’s historic feat. Fowler has been a member of MJ’s exclusive Grove XXIII club for quite some time. The members of the club consist of the elite of the elite. From Hollywood actors to legends from different sports, many of them enjoy membership in MJ’s exclusive club.

But before Fowler went on to rewrite history, he had given a sneak peek into his close bond with the six-time NBA champion, Michael Jordan. Two years ago, Fowler made an appearance on The Ringer’s YouTube channel, where he talked about his friendship with MJ.

When he was asked what it was like playing golf with Jordan, Fowler said, “I think it’s very beneficial for me. One: you’re playing against MJ, one of the most clutch guys there is. He’s good, especially when you get him around the greens and putting. He’ll putt anyone straight up.”

Fowler also revealed that he was lucky enough to call MJ his friend. They have played together multiple times over the years and although Fowler is a better golfer than His Airness, he admitted that MJ can be intimidating for new guys. Nonetheless, this close bond is possibly what got Fowler entry to MJ’s exclusive golf club.

Michael Jordan’s love for golf was evident since his time in the league. And it has only grown exponentially over time. Moreover, the fact that Jordan has an exclusive golf club only goes to support the statement above. Some of the most notable members of the golf community who are members of MJ’s club are Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, and Rory McIlroy. Even Dustin Johnson, the LIV Golf star, is a member of MJ’s Grove XXIII.
