Since the late 2000s, Jason Whitlock has consistently voiced his criticism of Allen Iverson. Just before Iverson’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016, Whitlock claimed in a notable segment of ‘Speak For Yourself’, Allen Iverson was a negative influence on the NBA, suggesting that he promoted a culture of prioritizing hip-hop over basketball. Whitlock expressed concerns about the impact this could have on the younger generation.
In 2008, Whitlock specifically targeted Iverson’s extensive tattoo collection. Additionally, in a 2009 column for Fox Sports, Whitlock described Iverson as the epitome of a spoiled, media-favored, and over-hyped basketball player.
In 2017, Whitlock voiced his criticism of LeBron James, asserting that he viewed James as lacking intelligence and deliberately embracing a victim mentality. Whitlock alleged that James and many Black individuals actively held the belief that being Black entailed assuming a victimized position. He disregarded James’ assertions regarding the difficulties faced by both himself and the Black community, asserting that James enjoyed an elevated status as an idolized figure.
