In the podcast episode, Charles Barkley talked about the two tennis stars who recently retired from the sport. After having stellar careers in the sport, both Roger Federer and Serena Williams announced their retirement in 2022. There’s hardly any sports fans who have never heard of the two big names in tennis. Federer retired after playing for 24 years and winning 20 Grand Slam titles. Whereas, Williams played for 27 years and won 23 Grand Slam titles.
Talking about Federer, Barkley said, “Roger Federer just carried himself with so much dignity and class. I just want to acknowledge…when he was going through that run when he was totally unbeatable. that was one of the great things I’ve ever seen in history.”

Interestingly, many sports fans might also agree that both Roger Federer and Michael Jordan are the GOATs of their respective sports. Jordan took the sports world by storm as he won championships after championships in the 90s. But for Barkley to acknowledge Federer’s legacy as one of the greatest only reminds fans of the never-ending feud between MJ and Chuck.
What happened between Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley?
Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley had been good friends when they were NBA players. Despite being in different teams, the two great basketball players remained close friends for the majority of their playing careers. The duo would often hang out together for a game of golf or just a casual night out. Their friendship even withstood the 1993 NBA Finals between the Phoenix Suns and the Chicago Bulls.

Seeing their bond, no one thought the two NBA legends would have a falling out. However, after having a good run, their friendship finally met its end in 2012. Post their retirement, Charles Barkley settled on the role of an NBA analyst. Whereas Jordan became the owner of the Charlotte Hornets. In an interview with ESPN 1000’s Waddle & Silvy Show, Chuck criticized MJ and questioned his ability as the owner of the NBA team.
Barkley said, “I love Michael, but he just has not done a good job. Even though he is one of my great friends, I can?t get on here and tell you he?s done a great job. He has not done a great job, plain and simple.”
Evidently, Barkley’s comments did not sit well with MJ and they have not been on talking terms since then. While Barkley did explain his previous comments during an interview with Insider, it did not make much of a difference.
