Christmas came early in Serbia. In fact, it arrived in June this year for the Serbs. Novak Djokovic on Sunday and Nikola Jokic on Monday. In only two days, the two Serbs notched down a landmark victory in their respective sports. While Djokovic became the most successful player in men’s tennis history, Jokic led Denver Nuggets to its first NBA championship.
Despite playing completely different sports, the two Serb legends have the utmost respect for each other. Djokovic has always shown his interest in multiple sports and as a Serb, he has always rooted for Nikola Jokic. While The NBA champion considers Djokovic his idol and has always spoken highly of him.

Nikola Jokic became the center of attraction after clinching the NBA title. His playoff run was one for the ages where he recorded the most points, turnovers, and rebounds, being the only player in the history of the sport to do so.
When asked about Djokovic in the post-conference, Jokic said, “I’m gonna see if he texted me. He’s probably the best ever. He’s definitely the best for us. I think it’s a really good moment to be a Serbian.”

Jokic immediately put his phone back after seeing the number of texts he was receiving. He said that he might have to switch his phone off for some time till things cooled down.
Novak Djokovic expresses his love and support for Jokic
Djokovic has always supported other Serbian athletes and favored them. With Jokic joining him as the face of Serbian athletes, Djokovic has nothing but respect for him. After one of his press conferences at the Roland Garros, the 23-time major champion was asked about Jokic. He said, “Go Jokic, Go Denver all the way. I really like Jimmy Butler but I gotta support my man, Joker. I hope they win their first ring.”

It’s not common to see two giants of the game from different sports having such mutual admiration for each other. However, the Djokovic-Jokic bromance is certainly one of the most beautiful sights in sports at the moment.

Serbia is extremely blessed to have both Jokic and Djokovic competing at the same time. While Djokovic has already cemented his spot as one of the greatest players in tennis, Jokic will most likely end up as one for basketball.
