Among the most successful athletes in sports history is Portuguese soccer team captain Cristiano Ronaldo. The 38-year-old has won many laurels in his glorious career, but the beginning of his storied career was propelled at the behest of one man, his former manager and “father figure”, Sir Alex Ferguson.
The legendary Manchester United manager won much acclaim in his illustrious coaching career. The 81-year-old was a keen instructor, with his wisdom inspiring many upcoming athletes. One of his most famous quotes recently made rounds in the NBA community, but the ‘Slim Reaper’, Kevin Durant, doesn’t agree with Fergie’s principles.

Kevin Durant differs from Sir Alex Ferguson’s wisdom
Durant, one of the key members of the Phoenix Suns, is in the debate for being one of the greatest pure scorers in the NBA. The 2x MVP has repeatedly proved his value and started the streak of 5 straight NBA All-Star Game appearances in his 20s.
However, the power forward has a history of taking offense from streaky comments. Recently, a fan on Twitter mentioned the commonly held belief in team sports, “attacks win you games, defense wins you titles.”
The saying was first coined by Sir Alex Ferguson, who led his Manchester United side to 13 Premier League titles among other prestigious accolades. However, Durant begged to differ with his opinion.

In reply to the fan tweet, the 34-year-old stirred up a controversy by expressing his own iteration of the phrase. The statement sparked an intense debate as fans interpreted it as an undermining of the defensive aspect of the game.

Being 6’9, Durant uses his immense build to shoot over or jump above the smaller defenders, making him near-impossible to guard. Perhaps his own game has made KD focus more on the offensive game, which led to his tweet.
At least the opinion was tweeted by Durant through his official account, though.
When Durant landed in hot soup after getting caught red-handed
This is not the first time the superstar has gotten into controversy because of his tweets. Durant once faced serious backlash after being caught using a secret ‘burner’ account to defend himself.
The incident unfolded when he responded to a fan who asked for a convincing reason for one of his trade moves. Durant’s secret was revealed when he made the mistake of using his official account instead of his alternate account and accidentally referred to himself in the third person.

In response to the audience misinterpreting his recent statement, KD provided clarification by justifying his opinion. “Y’all problem is that when I say offense wins, u think I’m saying I hate defense.” Once the fans grasped his perspective, they finally understood the intended message behind his words.
