Fred VanVleet has been graciously welcomed into the Houston Rockets franchise. He became the first undrafted player to sign a $100 million contract in the NBA. From a humble beginning as the fourth point guard in 2016, he transcended to become a vital asset in the Toronto Raptors? journey to the chip in 2019.

Now experienced and mature, he is expected to lead the Rockets’ young roster to title contenders. However, VanVleet?s personal 2023-24 season was one of his worst ever. It came with its fair share of complicated incidents, which included a brawl between him and the 2021-22 NBA Rookie of the Year.?

Appearing on The Pivotal Podcast, VanVleet talked about his early life, struggles to make it to the NBA, and pressures regarding the Houston contract. As the conversations were shaping naturally, one of the hosts, Channing Crowder, benevolently asked him about the alleged brawl within the Toronto squad.

?They said y?all two was starting beef with the team last year,? to which VanVleet asked, ?That?s what they said??

Replying, Crowder quickly acknowledged the recent Instagram incident. In a matter of days, the star point guard unfollowed his former teammate, Scottie Barnes, which began the social media tussle. ?Then I saw you, what, you unfollowed Scottie Barnes. And then he unfollowed you, then you followed him back.?

To settle the discussion, VanVleet calmed the nerves around the room. ?Nah, I see that anything is like blown out of proportion. Umm, and the thing about nowadays is that if you don?t speak to a rumor, it becomes true.”

The 2019 NBA champion also gave his opinion on what went wrong with the Raptors last season. “Having a season that we had with a team that just got to the fifth seed a year before, it was a letdown for everybody,? he claimed. ?There was a mix of guys that had been there, new guys trying to prove themselves – it didn?t work out. It wasn?t a great fit, for whatever reason, the chemistry didn?t click.?

Fred VanVleet was also part of an Instagram scuffle with Toronto back in 2022. He was noticed to unfollow every member of his Toronto squad at that time. He later clarified that he was just trying to sway the Instagram algorithm.

Will VanVleet succeed in his future at the Houston Rockets?

Rockets are making quick moves to create an adept roster. More importantly, VanVleet has taken it upon himself to indulge with his new teammates, despite the new season scheduled months away.

The #23 is accoladed because of his work ethic. He has already worked out with Rockets teenage star Jalen Green. It seems like his role as a veteran star and mentor has already begun.

VanVleet also mentioned his goal with Houston for the upcoming season is to achieve a spot in the playoffs. The young Rockets team hasn?t seen the light of playoff so far.
